حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِيمَا يَحْسَبُ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ذَكَرَ خَدِيجَةَ بِنْتَ خُوَيْلِدٍ وَكَانَ أَبُوهَا يَرْغَبُ أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ فَصَنَعَتْ طَعَامًا وَشَرَابًا وَدَعَتْ أَبَاهَا وَأُنَاسًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَطَعِمُوا وَشَرِبُوا فَقَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ لِأَبِيهَا إِنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ يَخْطُبُنِي قُمْ فَزَوِّجْهُ فَزَوَّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ فَخَلَفَتْهُ وَأَلْبَسَتْهُ حُلَّةً وَكَذَلِكَ كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْآبَاءِ إِذَا زَوَّجُوا بَنَاتِهِمْ فَلَمَّا سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ السُّكْرُ نَظَرَ فَإِذَا هُوَ مُخَلَّقٌ وَعَلَيْهِ حُلَّةٌ فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنِي؟ فَقَالَتْ زَوَّجْتَنِي مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ أَنَا زَوَّجْتُكِ يَتِيمَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ لَا لَعَمْرِي فَقَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ أَمَا تَسْتَحِي أَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تُسَفِّهَ نَفْسَكَ تُخْبِرُ قُرَيْشًا وَالنَّاسَ أَنَّكَ كُنْتَ سَكْرَانًا فَلَمْ تَزَلْ بِهِ حَتَّى رَضِيَ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ mentioned Khadījah bt. Khuwaylid. Her father was reluctant to marry her to him, so she prepared food and drink and invited her father and some people from Quraysh. They ate and drank. Khadījah said to her father, "Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allah is asking for my hand in marriage. Stand up and marry me to him." He married her to him, and she perfumed him and dressed him in a fine garment. That is how they used to treat fathers when they married off their daughters. When the intoxication left him, he looked and saw that he was perfumed and wearing a fine garment. He said, "What is the matter with me?" She said, "You married me to Muḥammad." He said, "I married you to the orphan of Abū Ṭālib? No, by my life!" Khadījah said, "Are you not ashamed? Do you want to make a fool of yourself? You would tell Quraysh and the people that you were drunk?" She kept at him until he consented.
