حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ السُّلَمِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَتْ
قُرَيْشٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يَجْعَلْ لَنَا الصَّفَا ذَهَبًا فَإِنْ أَصْبَحَ لَنَا ذَهَبًا اتَّبَعْنَاكَ فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ ﷻ فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلَامَ وَيَقُولُ لَكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ أَصْبَحَ لَهُمُ الصَّفَا ذَهَبًا فَمَنْ كَفَرَ مِنْهُمْ عَذَّبْتُهُ عَذَابًا لَمْ أُعَذِّبْهُ أَحَدًا مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَتَحْتُ لَهُمْ بَابَ التَّوْبَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ قَالَ بَلْ بَابُ التَّوْبَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ

✧ Quraysh said to the Prophet ﷺ: “Call upon your Lord to turn al-Ṣafā into gold for us; if it becomes gold by morning, we will follow you.” So he called upon his Lord, may He be exalted, and Gabriel ﷺ came to him and said: “Your Lord sends you greetings of peace and says: If you wish, al-Ṣafā will become gold for them, and whoever among them disbelieves I will punish with a punishment I have not inflicted on anyone in the worlds; or if you wish, I will open for them the gate of repentance and mercy.” He said: “Rather, the gate of repentance and mercy.”
