حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي اللَّيْثِ ثنا الْأَشْجَعِيُّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الْأَغَرِّ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ عَنْ خَلِيفَةَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي نَصْرٍ
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ {وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتُ اللهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُ} قَالَ «كَانَ الْأَوْسُ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ إِذْ ذَكَرُوا أَمْرَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَغَضِبُوا حَتَّى كَانَ بَيْنَهُمْ حَرْبٌ فَأَخَذُوا السِّلَاحَ وَمَشَى بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ» فَنَزَلَتْ {وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتُ اللهِ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {فَأَنْقَذَكُمْ مِنْهَا}

✧ From Ibn Abbas regarding {And how could you disbelieve while the verses of Allah are recited to you and His Messenger is among you?} He said: “The Aws were conversing when they mentioned the affairs of the pre-Islamic era, and they became angry until there was war between them. They took up weapons and some of them advanced against others.” So the verse was revealed: {And how could you disbelieve while the verses of Allah are recited to you} up to His saying {then He saved you from it.}
