حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ وَعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَا ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الْمَعْنِيُّ ثنا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى﴾ ﴿وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَى﴾، أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ: تِلْكَ الْغَرَانِيقُ الْعُلَى، وَشَفَاعَتُهُنْ لَتُرْتَجَى. فَلَمَّا سَجَدَ، سَجَدَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ ﴿وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ وَلَا نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ﴾، إِلَى قَوْلِهِ ﴿عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَقِيمٍ﴾؛ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ.

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited al-Najm, and when he reached, "Have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza" "and Manat, the third, the other," Satan cast onto his tongue: Those are the exalted gharaiq (cranes), and their intercession is surely hoped for. When he prostrated, the Muslims and the polytheists prostrated, so Allah ﷻ revealed, "And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that, when he recited, Satan cast," up to His saying, "the punishment of a barren day"; the Day of Badr.
