✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with a group of his companions heading to the market of ʿUkāẓ. The devils had been prevented from hearing the news of heaven, and meteors were sent against them. The devils returned to their people, who said: “What is the matter with you?” They said: “We have been prevented from hearing the news of heaven, and meteors were sent against us.” They said: “Nothing has prevented you from hearing the news of heaven except something that has happened. So travel throughout the east and west of the earth and see what it is that has prevented you from hearing the news of heaven.” So they set out traveling the east and west of the earth, seeking what had prevented them from hearing the news of heaven. Those who had headed toward Tihāmah turned back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he and his companions were at Nakhlah, heading to the market of ʿUkāẓ, and he was “leading his companions in the dawn prayer.” When they heard the Quran, they listened and said: “By Allah, this is what has prevented you from hearing the news of heaven.” Then and there they returned to their people and said: “O our people, we have heard a wondrous Quran, guiding to right conduct, and we have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Lord.” Then Allah revealed to His Prophet: “Say: It has been revealed to me”—and what was revealed to him was only the speech of the jinn.
