حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ سَنَةَ تِسْعِينَ وَمِئَتَيْنِ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا أَبُو هِلَالٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِيرِينَ قَالَ دَخَلَ أَنَسٌ عَلَى الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ الشِّعْرَ فَقَالَ

يَا أَخِي قَدْ عَلَّمَكَ اللهُ مَا هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْهُ قَالَ بَلَى فَقَالَ لَهُ الْبَرَاءُ أَتَخْشَى أَنْ أَمُوتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِي وَاللهِ لَا يَكُونُ ذَلِكَ بَلَاءَ اللهِ إِيَّايَ فَقَدْ قَتَلْتُ مِائَةً مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَفَرَّدْتُ بِقَتْلِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ شَارَكْتُ فِيهِ

Translation

✧ "O my brother, Allah has taught you what is better for you than that." He said: "Yes." Al-Bara' said to him: "Do you fear that I will die on my bed? By Allah, that will not be a trial from Allah to me, for I have killed one hundred of the polytheists whom I killed alone, and among them those I shared in killing."
