حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَكَمُ بْنُ أَبَانَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ

ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ لَمَّا كَانَ مَرَضُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُبَيٍّ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ جَاءَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَتَكَلَّمَا بِكَلَامٍ بَيْنَهُمَا فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ قَدْ فَهِمْتُ مَا تَقُولُ امْنُنْ عَلَيَّ فَكَفِّنِّي فِي قَمِيصِكَ وَصَلِّ عَلَيَّ «فَكَفَّنَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي قَمِيصِهِ ذَلِكَ وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ» قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ أَيَّ صَلَاةٍ كَانَتْ وَمَا خادعَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ إِنْسَانًا قَطُّ

Translation

✧ Ibn Abbas said: When the illness of Abdullah b. Ubayy in which he died occurred, the Prophet ﷺ came to him and they spoke words between them. Abdullah said: "I have understood what you say. Grant me a favor: shroud me in your shirt and pray over me." So the Prophet ﷺ shrouded him in that shirt of his and prayed over him. Ibn Abbas said: And Allah knows best what kind of prayer it was. Muhammad ﷺ never deceived any person.
