✧ Al-Qaʿnabi narrated to us: ʿAbd al-ʿAziz b. Muhammad narrated to us, from ʿAmr b. Abi ʿAmr, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbas, that a man clung to a debtor of his for ten dinars and said: “By God, I have no payment to give you today.” He said: “By God, I will not part from you until you pay or bring a guarantor who will pay on your behalf.” He said: “By God, I have no payment and I cannot find anyone to carry it for me.” So he dragged him to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of God, this man clung to me, and I asked him to wait one month, but he refused unless I pay him or bring him a guarantor. I said: By God, I cannot find a guarantor and I have no payment today.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Will you not give him respite except for one month?” He said: “No.” He said: “Then I will carry it on your behalf.” So the Messenger of God ﷺ took it upon himself. The man went and brought him the amount he had promised. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: “Where did you get this gold?” He said: “From a mine.” He said: “Go, for we have no need of it, and there is no good in it.” Then the Messenger of God ﷺ paid it on his behalf.
