حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقَطِيُّ ثنا أَبُو مُوسَى الْهَرَوِيُّ ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
نُسِخَتْ آيَتَانِ مِنْ سُورَةِ الْمَائِدَةِ آيَةُ الْهَدْي وَالْقَلَائِدِ وَالْآيَةُ الْأُخْرَى {فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ أَوْ أَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ} قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي ذَلِكَ مُخَيَّرًا إِنْ شَاءَ حَكَمَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَإِنْ شَاءَ رَدَّهُمْ إِلَى حُكْمِ غَيْرِهِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ {فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ}

✧ Two verses of Surat al-Maʾidah were abrogated: the verse of the sacrificial animal and the garlands, and the other verse: “So judge between them or turn away from them.” He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given a choice in that matter: if he wished, he could judge between them, and if he wished, he could refer them to someone else’s judgment, until it was revealed: “So judge between them by what Allah has sent down.”
