✧ And about the slave and the woman who attend the spoils: is there anything for them from it? And about the orphan: when is the name of orphan removed from him? And about killing children. Ibn ʿAbbās said: Were it not that I hope that God will benefit him through my writing, I would not write to him. Then he said: Write, O Yazīd: As for the fifth, we used to hold that it was for us, but our people refused us that. As for the slave and the woman who attend the spoils, there is nothing for them from it, but they are given a small gift. As for the orphan, orphanhood is removed from him when he reaches puberty, and he becomes one of the poor Muslims. As for the children, do not kill them until you know from them the like of what al-Khiḍr knew about the boy before he killed him. The wording is that of the ḥadīth of Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī.
