حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ ثنا أَبِي ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يُحَدِّثُ
أَنَّ اللهَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَلَكًا مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ مَعَ الْمَلَكِ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمَلَكُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ جَلَّ يُخَيِّرُكَ بَيْنَ أَنْ تَكُونَ نَبِيًّا عَبْدًا أَوْ نَبِيًّا مَلِكًا فَالْتَفَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى جِبْرِيلَ كَالْمُسْتَشِيرِ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ تَوَاضَعْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَلْ نَبِيًّا عَبْدًا» فَمَا رُؤِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَكَلَ مُتَّكِئًا حَتَّى لَحِقَ بِرَبِّهِ

✧ Allah sent to the Prophet ﷺ an angel from among the angels together with the angel Jibril ﷺ. The angel said to him: "O Muhammad, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, gives you the choice between being a prophet-servant or a prophet-king." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to Jibril as if seeking counsel, and he gestured to him to be humble. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Rather, a prophet-servant." And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was never seen eating while reclining until he met his Lord.
