حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا خَلَّادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَا ثنا فِطْرُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ قَالَ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ أَوْ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَمَلَ وَأَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ قَالَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا فَقَدْ رَمَلَ وَلَيْسَتْ بِسُنَّةٍ وَلَكِنْ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأصْحَابُهُ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ قُعَيْقِعَانَ فَبَلَغَهُ أَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بِهِ هَزْلًا وَبِأَصْحَابِهِ فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّ بِهِ قُوَّةً
Translation

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ramal, and that it is a sunnah. He said: They have spoken truth and spoken falsehood. He did perform ramal, but it is not a sunnah. Rather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions arrived while the polytheists were on the mountain of Qu'ayqi'an, and it reached him that they were saying that he and his companions were weak, so he commanded them to perform ramal to show them that they had strength.
