حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنِي مُجَالِدٌ أنا عَامِرٌ الشَّعْبِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ
لِيَ الْعَبَّاسُ أَيْ بُنَيْ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَدْعُوكَ وَيُقَرِّبُكَ وَيَسْتَشِيرُكَ مَعَ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَاحْفَظْ عَنِّي ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ اتَّقِ لَا يُجَرِّبَنَّ عَلَيْكَ كَذِبَةً وَلَا تُفْشِيَنَّ لَهُ سِرًّا وَلَا تَغْتَابَنَّ عِنْدَهُ أَحَدًا قَالَ عَامِرٌ فَقُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ كُلُّ وَاحِدَةٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَشَرَةِ آلَافٍ

✧ Al-'Abbas said to me: 'O my son, the Commander of the Believers is summoning you, bringing you near, and consulting you along with the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So preserve from me three traits: be wary—let him never test a lie on you; do not reveal a secret of his; and do not backbite anyone in his presence.' 'Amir said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas, 'Each one of these is better than ten thousand.'
