حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْعِجْلِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي بُكَيْرُ بْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَوَدِدْتُ
أَنَّ عِنْدِي رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقَدَرِ فَوَجَأْتُ رَأْسَهُ قَالُوا وَلِمَ ذَاكَ؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّ اللهَ خَلَقَ لَوْحًا مَحْفُوظًا مِنْ دُرَّةٍ بَيْضَاءَ دَفَّتَاهُ يَاقُوتَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ قَلَمُهُ نُورٌ وَكِتَابُهُ نُورٌ وَعَرْضُهُ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ يَنْظُرُ فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سِتِّينَ وَثَلَاثَمِائَةِ نَظْرَةٍ يَخْلُقُ بِكُلِّ نَظْرَةٍ وَيُحْيِي وَيُعِزُّ وَيُذِلُّ وَيَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ

✧ That with me there was a man from the people of qadar (fatalism/denial of divine decree), so I struck his head. They said: “And why that?” He said: “Because Allah created a preserved tablet of a white pearl; its covers are of red ruby, its pen is light, its writing is light, and its width is what is between heaven and earth. He looks into it every day three hundred and sixty looks; with each look He creates, gives life, honours, humiliates, and does whatever He wills.”
