✧ Mu'awiya said to him: 'What do you say about Abu Bakr?' He said: 'May God have mercy on Abu Bakr. By God, he was a reciter of the Quran, distant from deviation, heedless of obscenity, a forbidder of wrongdoing, knowledgeable of his religion, fearful of God, avoiding destructive things, standing in prayer at night, fasting by day, safe from his worldly concerns, resolute upon justice for all creation, enjoining good, patient in it, thankful in all circumstances, remembering God morning and evening, and compelling himself toward what is beneficial. He surpassed and excelled his companions in piety, contentment, asceticism, chastity, righteousness, prudence, abstinence, and competence. May God inflict curses until the Day of Resurrection upon anyone who slanders him.'
