حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ خَيْثَمٍ الْهِلَالِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ قَالَ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَقَدْ تَحَلَّفَتْ عِنْدَهُ بُطُونُ قُرَيْشٍ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الْعَاصِ جَالِسٌ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَالَ يَا سَعِيدُ وَاللهِ لَأُلْقِيَنَّ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَسَائِلَ يَعْيَى بِجِوَابِهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعِيدٌ لَيْسَ مِثْلُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَعْيَى بِمَسَائِلِكَ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ قَالَ

لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا تَقُولُ فِي أَبِي بَكْرٍ؟ قَالَ رَحِمَ اللهُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ كَانَ وَاللهِ لِلْقُرْآنِ تالِيًا وَعَنِ الْمَيْلِ نَائِيًا وَعَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ سَاهِيًا وَعَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ناهِيًا وَبِدِينِهِ عارِفًا وَمِنَ اللهِ خَائِفًا وَعَنِ الْمُهْلِكَاتِ جَانِفًا وَبِاللَّيْلِ قَائِمًا وَبِالنَّهَارِ صَائِمًا وَمِنْ دُنْيَاهُ سَالِمًا وَعَلَى عَدْلِ الْبَرِيَّةِ عازِمًا وَبِالْمَعْرُوفِ آمِرًا وَإِلَيْهِ صَابِرًا وَفِي الْأَحْوَالِ شَاكِرًا وَلِلَّهِ فِي الْغُدُوِّ وَالْآصَالِ ذَاكِرًا وَلِنَفْسِهِ بِالْمَصَالِحِ قاهِرًا فَاقَ وَرَاقَ أَصْحَابَهُ وَرَعًا وَكَفَافًا وَزُهْدًا وَعَفَافًا وَبِرًّا وَحِيَاطَةً وَزَهَادَةً وَكِفَايَةً فَأَعْقَبَ اللهُ مَنْ ثَلَبَهُ اللَّعَائِنَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

✧ What do you say about Abu Bakr?" He said, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Bakr. By Allah, he was a devoted follower of the Quran, distant from desires, free from indecency, forbidding evil, knowledgeable in religion, fearing Allah, abstaining from destructive temptations, standing in prayer at night, fasting during the day, detached from worldly possessions, resolute in upholding justice, commanding good, patient in hardship, grateful in all situations, remembering Allah in the morning and evening, conquering his own desires in favor of others, showing righteousness, guarding his chastity, practicing asceticism, contentment, sufficiency. Allah has honored and elevated his companions with piety, contentment, asceticism, chastity, righteousness, protection, asceticism, sufficiency. Allah has avenged those who curse him until the Day of Judgment."
