حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ قَالَا ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أنا عَمَّارُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيهِ فَكَانَ كَالْمُعْرِضِ عَنْ أَبِي فَخَرَجْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَقَالَ أَبِي أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ابْنِ عَمِّكَ كَالْمُعْرِضِ عَنِّي؟ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَهْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيهِ فَقَالَ فَكَانَ عِنْدَهُ أَحَدٌ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَرَجَعْنَا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ لِي كَذَا وَكَذَا هَلْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ أَحَدٌ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ رَأَيْتَهُ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ هُوَ الَّذِي شَغَلَنِي عَنْكَ»

✧ I was with my father in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and with the Prophet ﷺ there was a man confiding privately with him, and he seemed to be turning away from my father. So we left him, and my father said, “Did you not see your cousin seeming to turn away from me?” I said, “O my father, there was a man with him confiding privately with him.” He said, “Was there anyone with him?” I said, “Yes.” So we went back, and he said, “O Messenger of God, I said to ʿAbd Allāh such-and-such, and he said to me such-and-such. Was there anyone with you?” He said, “Yes. Did you see him, O ʿAbd Allāh?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “That was Gabriel ﷺ ; he is the one who occupied me from you.”
