حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْمُسْتَمْلِي وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَا ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْكِنْدِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ أَبِي الْكَهْتَلَةِ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَظُنُّهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَرَ جِبْرِيلَ فِي صُورَتِهِ إِلَّا مَرَّتَيْنِ قَالَ أَمَّا مَرَّةٌ فَإِنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ أَنْ يُرِيَهُ نَفْسَهُ فِي صُورَتِهِ فَأَرَاهُ فَأَتَاهُ يَسُدُّ الْأُفُقَ وَأَمَّا الثَّانِيَةُ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَهُ إِذْ صَعِدَ فِي قَوْلِهِ {ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَى} فَلَمَّا أَنْ حَسَّ جِبْرِيلُ رَبَّهُ ﷻ عَادَ فِي صُورَتِهِ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ {وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ} الْمُنْتَهَى عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَى إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى} قَالَ «خَلْقِ جِبْرِيلَ»

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: he did not see Jibril in his true form except twice. He said: As for one time, he asked him to show himself in his true form, so he showed himself to him, and he came filling the horizon. As for the second, he was with him when he ascended, regarding His saying: “Then he drew near and came down, and was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer, and He revealed to His servant what He revealed” [53:8–10]. When Jibril sensed his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, he returned to his form, and that is His saying: “And he certainly saw him in another descent at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, near which is the Garden of Refuge… He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord” [53:13–18]. He said: “The creation of Jibril.”
