حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَبِيبٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ نَافِعٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زَحْرٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ قَالَ
احْتَبَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ كَانَ عِنْدَ بَعْضِ أَهْلِهِ أَوْ نِسَائِهِ فَلَمْ يَأْتِنَا لِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ اللَّيْلُ فَجَاءَنَا وَمِنَّا الْمُصَلِّي وَمِنَّا الْمُضْطَجِعُ فَبَشَّرَنَا وَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَا يُصَلِّي هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ» فَنَزَلَتْ {لَيْسُوا سَوَاءً مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ أُمَّةٌ قَائِمَةٌ يَتْلُونَ آيَاتِ اللهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ}

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was detained one night with one of his wives, and he did not come to us for the later evening prayer until the night had passed. Then he came to us, and among us were those praying and those lying down. He gave us glad tidings and said: «Indeed no one from the People of the Book performs this prayer.» Then it was revealed: {They are not all alike; among the People of the Book is an upright community who recite the verses of Allah during the hours of the night while they prostrate.}
