حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْعَلَّافُ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا نَافِعُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا حِسَّ الْحَيَّةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْتُلُوهَا» فَدَخَلَتْ فِي شَقِّ جُحْرٍ فَأَتَى بِسَعَفَةٍ فَأَضْرَمَ فِيهَا نَارًا ثُمَّ فَرَّغْنَا بَعْضَ الْجُحْرِ فَلَمْ نَجِدْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «دَعُوهَا؛ فَقَدْ وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْ وَوَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا»

✧ While we were in the mosque of al-Khayf on the night of Arafah, we heard the sound of a snake. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it." It entered a crack of a hole, so he brought a palm frond and lit a fire in it, then we emptied part of the hole but did not find it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave it, for Allah has protected it from your evil and protected you from its evil."
