حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِيهِ فَإِنَّ فَاهُ لَرَطْبٌ بِهَا فَمَا أَدْرِي بِأَيِّهِمَا يُخْتَمُ {فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ} أَوْ {إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَ} قَالَ وَأَفْلَتَتْهُ حَيَّةٌ فِي جُحْرٍ فَقَالَ «وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا وَوُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ»

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when {By those sent forth in succession} descended upon him. I took it from his mouth, and his mouth was indeed moist with it, and I do not know with which of the two it is ended: {Then in what statement after it will they believe?} or {When it is said to them, 'Bow down,' they do not bow}. He said: And a snake escaped him into a hole, so he said, "You were protected from its evil and it was protected from your evil."
