✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ often said to me: "O A'ishah, what happened to your verses?" I would say: "Which of my verses do you mean, O Messenger of God? They are many." He would say: "About gratitude." I would say: "Yes, by my father and mother." The poet said: Ward off your weak one, lest his weakness overtake you one day, And consequences catch you that have grown. He will reward you or praise you, and truly Whoever praises you for what you did is like one who repaid. Indeed, when you desire connection with a noble man, You will not find the cords of his rope weak. She said: He would say: "O A'ishah, when God gathers the creatures on the Day of Resurrection, He will say to a servant of His servants to whom another servant of His servants has done a kindness: 'Did you thank him?' He will say: 'O Lord, I knew that was from You, so I thanked You for it.' He will say: 'You did not thank Me if you did not thank the one through whose hands I caused it to come.'"
