حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْفَرَجِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي قُرَّةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ قَالَ:

" اسْتَلَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ رَجُلٍ تَمْرَ لَوْنٍ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ يَتَقَاضَاهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " لَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا الْيَوْمَ شَيْءٌ، فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَخَّرْتَ عَنَّا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَنَا شَيْءٌ فَنَقْضِيَكَ ! فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: وَاغَدْرَاهْ ! فَتَذَمَّرَ عُمَرُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " دَعْنَا يَا عُمَرُ؛ فَإِنَّ لِصَاحِبِ الْحَقِّ مَقَالًا ! انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى خَوْلَةَ بِنْتِ حَكِيمٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ، فَالْتَمِسُوا لَنَا عِنْدَهَا تَمْرًا " ! قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقُوا، فَقَالَتْ: وَاللهِ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا تَمْرُ ذَخِيرَةٍ ! فَأَخْبَرُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: خُذُوهُ، فَاقْضُوهُ ! فَلَمَّا قَضَوْهُ أَقْبَلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: " أَسْتَوْفَيْتَ ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَدْ أَوْفَيْتَ وَأَطَبْتَ ! فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّ خِيَارَ عِبَادِ اللهِ عِنْدَ اللهِ الْمُوفُونَ الْمُطِيبُونَ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ borrowed from a man a quantity of dates of a certain kind. When the man came to demand repayment, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "We have nothing today, so if you wish, give us more time until something comes to us and we can repay you." The man said: "What treachery!" Umar became angry, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Leave us, O Umar, for the one who has a right may speak. Go to Khawlah bt. Hakim al-Ansariyyah and seek some dates for us from her." He said: So they went, and she said: "By Allah, I have nothing but dates stored as provision." They informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "Take them and repay him." When they had repaid him, the man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said to him: "Have you received full payment?" He said: "Yes, you have paid in full and been generous." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed the best of Allah's servants in the sight of Allah are those who fulfill and are generous."
