✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Bakr and commanded him to proclaim these words. Then he sent ʿAli after him. While Abu Bakr was on one of the roads, he heard the grumbling of the Messenger of Allah's she-camel. Abu Bakr came out in alarm, thinking it was the Messenger of Allah, and behold it was ʿAli. He handed over the letter of the Messenger of Allah to him, and he appointed him over the pilgrimage season, and he commanded ʿAli to proclaim these words. They both went and performed the pilgrimage. ʿAli stood during the days of Tashriq and proclaimed: The protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger is absolved from every polytheist. So travel freely in the land for four months. No polytheist may perform pilgrimage after this year, no one may circumambulate the House naked, and none will enter Paradise except a believer. ʿAli kept proclaiming them, and when his voice became hoarse, Abu Hurayrah stood up and proclaimed them.
