حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعَدَةُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، نَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي الْيَسَرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ. عَنْ أَبِي الْيَسَرِ، قَالَ:
نَظَرْتُ إِلَى الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَهُوَ كَأَنَّهُ صَنَمٌ، وَعَيْنَاهُ تَذْرِفَانِ، فَلَمَّا نَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ قُلْتُ: جَزَاكَ اللهُ مِنْ ذِي رَحِمٍ شَرًّا، تُقَاتِلُ ابْنَ أَخِيكَ مَعَ عَدُوِّهِ ؟ قَالَ: مَا فَعَلَ، وَهَلْ أَصَابَهُ الْقَتْلُ ؟ قُلْتُ: اللهُ أَعَزُّ لَهُ، وَأَنْصَرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَيَّ ؟ قُلْتُ: إِسَارًا، " فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ قَتْلِكَ، قَالَ: لَيْسَتْ بِأَوَّلِ صِلَتِهِ، فَأَسَرْتُهُ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ

✧ I looked at al-'Abbas b. 'Abd al-Muttalib and he was like an idol, his eyes flowing with tears. When I looked at him, I said: “May God repay you, O relative, with evil—you fight your nephew alongside his enemy?” He said: “What has he done? Has he been killed?” I said: “God is mightier and more supportive for him than that.” He said: “What do you want with me?” I said: “Captivity, for the Messenger of God ﷺ has forbidden killing you.” He said: “This is not the first of his kindness.” So I took him captive, then brought him to the Messenger of God.
