✧ Muʿādh b. Jabal went out looking for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ but did not find him. He searched for him in his houses but did not find him. He followed him from alley to alley until he was directed to him on Mount Thawāb. He went out and climbed Mount Thawāb, looking right and left, and caught sight of him in the cave that people have made a path to, leading to the Mosque of Victory. There he was, prostrating. I descended from the top of the mountain while he was still prostrating, and he did not raise his head until I thought ill of him, thinking that he had passed away. When he raised his head, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I thought ill of you and thought you had passed away." He said: "Gabriel ﷺ came to me at this spot and said: 'Allah, Blessed and Exalted, sends you greetings and says: What would you like Me to do with your community?' I said: 'Allah knows best.' He went away, then came back and said: 'He says: I will not displease you regarding your community.' So I prostrated. The best means of drawing near to Allah is prostration."
