حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعَدَةُ، ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُلَيْحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ نَافِعٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ لِي خَالًا فَارَقَ امْرَأَتَهُ، فَدَخَلَهُ مِنْ ذَاكَ هَمٌّ وَأَمْرٌ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَهَا، وَلَمْ يَأْمُرْنِي بِذَلِكَ، وَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: " لَا، إِلَّا أَنْ تَنْكِحَ نِكَاحَ غِبْطَةٍ، إِنْ وَافَقَتْكَ أَمْسَكْتَ، وَإِنْ كَرِهْتَ فَارَقْتَ؛ فَإِنَّا كُنَّا نَعُدُّ هَذَا فِي زَمَانِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ السِّفَاحَ

✧ A man asked ʿAbd Allah b. ʿUmar: "I have a maternal uncle who separated from his wife, and he became distressed and it was hard for him. I want to marry her, but he did not order me to do so, and he does not know." Ibn ʿUmar said: "No, unless you marry with a desirable marriage: if she suits you, you keep her, and if you dislike her, you separate. For we used to count this in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as fornication."
