✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ camped at al-Hijr during the expedition of Tabuk, he stood and addressed the people, saying, “O people, do not ask your Prophet about signs. These are the people of Salih. They asked their Prophet to bring them a she-camel, and he did. It used to come from this mountain pass and drink their water on the day of its watering, and they would milk from its milk the like of what they used to obtain from the day of its absence. Then it would return from this mountain pass. But they rebelled against the command of their Lord and hamstrung it. Then God gave them a respite of three days, and God’s promise was not belied. Then the cry came to them, and God destroyed all who were among them between heaven and earth except a man who was in the sanctuary of God, and the sanctuary of God protected him from God’s punishment.” It was said, “O Messenger of God, who is he?” He said, “Abu Righal.”
