✧ He entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ when he had forsaken his wives, and found him on a bed, leaning on a leather cushion stuffed with palm fiber. Umar said: I turned and saw a worn-out cloak whose smell had become strong, so I wept and said: O Messenger of God, you are the Messenger of God ﷺ and His chosen one, while this is Kisra and Caesar in gold and silk? The Messenger of God ﷺ sat up straight and said: Are you in doubt, O Ibn al-Khattab? Those are a people whose good things have been hastened for them in the life of this world.

machine translationMarzūq b. Abī al-Hudhayl narrated it from al-Zuhrī and said: "from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah b. Masʿūd, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar," but he erred in his lineage; he is in fact ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Thawr. This is how the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from al-Zuhrī. This hadith has many authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) routes from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar.
