✧ When the people fled from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud, eleven men from the Ansar remained with him, along with Talha b. Ubayd Allah, while he was ascending the mountain. The polytheists caught up with them, so he said: 'Is there anyone for these?' Talha b. Ubayd Allah said: 'I, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Stay where you are, O Talha.' A man from the Ansar said: 'Then I, O Messenger of Allah,' so he went forth, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended with those who remained with him. Then the Ansari was killed and they caught up with him. He said: 'Is there anyone for these?' Talha said the same as his first statement, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him the same as his statement. A man from the Ansar said: 'I, O Messenger of Allah,' so he gave him permission. He fought like the fighting of his companion and the fighting of his companion, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended and his companions ascended. Then he was killed, and they caught up with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept saying the same as his first statement, and Talha would say: 'I, O Messenger of Allah,' but he held him back. A man from the Ansar would ask permission to fight, and he would grant him permission, and he would fight like those before him, until none remained with him except Talha. They surrounded them, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Who is for these?' Talha said: 'I,' and he fought like the fighting of all those before him. Some of his fingertips were struck, so he said: 'Has!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Talha, if you had said: In the name of Allah, or remembered Allah, the angels would have raised you while the people were watching, until they carried you into the sky.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Talha ascended to their companions while they were gathered.
