machine translationAbān b. Yazīd al-ʿAṭṭār has narrations other than those I have mentioned. He is good in hadith (ḥasan al-ḥadīth) and consistent; his hadith is to be written down. He has sound hadiths from Qatādah and others, and most of them are upright. I hope that he is among the people of truthfulness.

  • Ibn Abī Ḥatim

machine translationAbū Zurʿah said: This hadith, as a hadith of Abū Hurayrah, is an error. I say: He did not give a full answer and did not explain the defect (ʿillah) of the hadith beyond what he mentioned. In my view, the correct version is what Abān al-ʿAṭṭār narrated from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, from Maḥmūd b. ʿAmr, from Asmāʾ bint Yazīd b. al-Sakan, from the Prophet ﷺ; and from Yaḥyā, from Maḥmūd b. ʿAmr, from Abū Hurayrah, as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). And I heard my father say: He is Maḥmūd b. ʿAmr b. Yazīd b. al-Sakan.
