✧ Nothing prevented us from witnessing Badr, I and my father Hisl, who is al-Yamān, except that the disbelievers of Quraysh intercepted us while we were heading to the Prophet ﷺ. They said, “You intend to go to Muḥammad.” We said, “We do not intend him.” They said, “Then give us a covenant and a solemn pledge that you will not fight alongside him.” So we gave it to them, and they let us go. Then we came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of the news. He said, “We will fulfill their covenant, and we will seek Allah’s help against them. Go back to Madinah.” So we returned.
