حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَهْلٍ، ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، ثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:

قَالَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ: " لَئِنْ عَادَ مُحَمَّدٌ يُصَلِّي إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ لَأَقْتُلَنَّهُ، فَعَادَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ، فَلَمَّا قِيلَ لِأَبِي جَهْلٍ إِنَّهُ قَدْ عَادَ قَالَ: لَقَدْ حِيلَ مَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ "، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: وَاللهِ لَوْ تَحَرَّكَ لَأَخَذَتْهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالنَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ

✧ Abu Jahl said: "If Muhammad returns to pray toward the qibla, I will surely kill him." So he returned, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down: "Read in the name of your Lord who created..." up to His saying: "Let him call his associates. We will call the guards of Hell." When it was said to Abu Jahl that he had returned, he said: "Indeed something has come between me and him." Ibn 'Abbas said: "By Allah, if he had moved, the angels would have seized him while the people were watching."
