✧ Al-Zubayr was a blind man. Thabit b. Qays b. Shammas said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Al-Zubayr passed by me on the day of Bu'ath and freed me, so grant him to me that I may repay him.' He said: 'He is yours.' He said to al-Zubayr: 'Do you recognize me?' He said: 'Yes, you are Thabit.' He said: 'I bestow a favor upon you as you bestowed a favor upon me on the day of Bu'ath.' He said: 'Will you benefit me? Where is my family?' He returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'Grant me his family.' He said: 'He granted him his family.' He came to him and informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had returned his family to him. He said: 'O son of my brother, what benefit is it to me to live as bodies? Where is the wealth?' He returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, grant me his wealth.' He said: 'And his wealth is yours.' He returned to him and said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has returned your wealth to you, and Allah Almighty has intended good for you.' He said: 'O son of my brother, what has happened to Huyayy b. Akhtab, the master of the settled and the Bedouin?' He said: 'He has been killed.' He said: 'O son of my brother, what has happened to Zayd b. Buta, the protector of the Jews?' He said: 'He has been killed.' He said: 'O son of my brother, what has happened to Ka'b b. Ashta, whose beauty the virgins of the tribe would marvel at?' He said: 'He has been killed.' He said: 'What has happened to the two assemblies?' He said: 'They are like yesterday that has passed.' He said: 'Between me and meeting the loved ones is only the emptying of a bucket. I ask you by my hand upon you, unless you join me with the people.' He said: 'Then he killed him.'
