✧ When Talhah b. al-Bara met the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "O Messenger of God, command me with whatever you like, and I will not disobey any command of yours." The Prophet ﷺ was amazed at that, and he was a young boy. He said to him then, "Go and kill your father." He said, "So he went out, turning away to do it. Then he called him and said, 'Come back, for I have not been sent with severing ties of kinship.'" After that, Talhah fell ill. The Prophet ﷺ came to visit him in winter, in cold and clouds. When he left, he said to his family, "I do not see Talhah except that death has occurred in him. So notify me so that I may witness him and pray over him, and hasten him." The Prophet ﷺ had not yet reached Banu Salim b. Awf when he died, and night fell upon him. Among what Talhah said was: "Bury me and join me with my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, and do not call the Messenger of God ﷺ, for I fear the Jews for him, and that he may be harmed because of me." The Prophet ﷺ was informed in the morning, and he came until he stood at his grave. The people lined up with him, and he said, "O God, meet Talhah while You laugh at him and he laughs at You."

machine translationImam Aḥmad said: The prayer at the grave has been reported from the Prophet ﷺ through six routes, all of them good (ḥasan). Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: Rather, through nine, all of them good (ḥasan), and he gave them all with their chains in his Tamhīd: from the hadith of Sahl b. Ḥunayf, Abū Hurayrah, ʿĀmir b. Rabīʿah, Ibn ʿAbbās and Zayd b. Thābit, these five concerning his prayer for the poor woman; and Saʿd b. ʿUbādah, concerning the prayer of the Chosen One over Umm Saʿd a month after her burial; and the hadith of al-Ḥuṣayn b. Waḥwaḥ, concerning his prayer, upon him be blessings and peace, at the grave of Ṭalḥah b. al-Barāʾ, then he raised his hands and said: "O Allah, let Ṭalḥah meet You laughing to You and You laughing to him"; and the hadith of Abū Umāmah b. Thaʿlabah, that he ﷺ returned from Badr after the mother of Abū Umāmah had died, and he prayed over her; and the hadith of Anas, that he ﷺ prayed over a woman after she had been buried, which could refer to the poor woman or to another.
