حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، نَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ، أَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ بِحَلَبَ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي أَبِي:
وَفَدَ الْمُنْذِرُ بْنُ سَاوَى مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ حَتَّى أَتَى مَدِينَةَ الرَّسُولِ ﷺ، وَمَعَ الْمُنْذِرِ أُنَاسٌ، وَأَنَا غُلَيْمٌ لَا أَعْقِلُ، أُمْسِكُ جِمَالَهُمْ قَالَ: فَذَهَبُوا مَعَ سِلَاحِهِمْ، فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَوَضَعَ الْمُنْذِرُ سِلَاحَهُ، وَلَبِسَ ثِيَابًا كَانَتْ مَعَهُ، وَمَسَحَ لِحْيَتَهُ بِدُهْنٍ، فَأَتَى نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمَ، وَأَنَا مَعَ الْجِمَالِ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ. فَقَالَ الْمُنْذِرُ، قَالَ لِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ مَا لَمْ أَرَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ ". قُلْتُ: وَمَا رَأَيْتَ مِنِّي يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: " وَضَعْتَ سِلَاحَكَ، وَلَبِسْتَ ثِيَابَكَ، وَتَدَهَّنْتَ ". قُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، أَفَشَيْءٌ جُبِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْ شَيْءٌ أَحْدَثْتُهُ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " لَا، بَلْ شَيْءٌ جُبِلْتَ عَلَيْهِ ". فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ لَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَسْلَمَتْ عَبْدُ الْقَيْسِ طَوْعًا، وَأَسْلَمَ النَّاسُ كَرْهًا، فَبَارَكَ اللهُ فِي عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ، وَمَوَالِي عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ " قَالَ لِي أَبِي: نَظَرْتُ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ كَمَا أَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْكَ، وَلَكِنِّي لَمْ أَعْقِلْ قَالَ: وَمَاتَ أَبِي وَهُوَ ابْنُ عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ

✧ al-Mundhir b. Sawa came as a delegate from al-Bahrayn until he reached the city of the Messenger ﷺ, and with al-Mundhir were some people, while I was a young boy who did not understand, holding their camels. He said: They went with their weapons and greeted the Messenger of God ﷺ. Al-Mundhir put down his weapon, put on clothes that he had with him, and wiped his beard with oil. Then he came to the Prophet of God ﷺ and greeted him, while I was with the camels looking at the Prophet of God ﷺ. Al-Mundhir said: The Prophet ﷺ said to me: 'I saw in you what I did not see in your companions.' I said: 'And what did you see in me, O Prophet of God?' He said: 'You put down your weapon, put on your clothes, and applied oil.' I said: 'O Prophet of God, is it something I was created with or something I have introduced?' The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'No, rather it is something you were created with.' Then they greeted the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said to them: 'Abd al-Qays accepted Islam willingly, and people accepted Islam unwillingly. May God bless Abd al-Qays and the clients of Abd al-Qays.' My father said to me: I looked at the Prophet of God ﷺ just as I am looking at you, but I did not understand. He said: And my father died at the age of one hundred and twenty years.
