✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ when the delegation of Banu Tamim came to him, led by Qays b. 'Asim, 'Amr b. al-Ahtam, and al-Zibriqan b. Badr. The Prophet ﷺ said to 'Amr b. al-Ahtam: 'What do you say about al-Zibriqan b. Badr?' He said: 'O Messenger of God, he is obeyed among his people, formidable in argument, and protective of what is behind him.' Al-Zibriqan said: 'O Messenger of God, he knows more about me than he described, but he envied me.' 'Amr said: 'By God, O Messenger of God, he is lacking in manliness, meager in property, base in character, and foolish in his father. By God, O Messenger of God, I did not lie at first, and I have spoken truth at last. But I was pleased and said the best I knew, and I became angry and said the worst I knew.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Indeed, some eloquence is sorcery, and some poetry is wisdom.'
