حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رُسْتَهْ، نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ السَّمَّانُ، نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي الْحُسَامِ، نَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ
أَنَّ الْمِيَاهَ كَانَتْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَلِيلَةً، وَكَانَ إِذَا كَانَ الصَّيْفُ صَلَّى النَّاسُ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا يَتَرَوَّحُونَ، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ وَخَرَجُوا مَعَهُ إِلَى فِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَمَكَثَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ النِّدَاءِ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَى بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ آتِيهِ بِوَضُوءٍ، فَدَخَلْتُ فَجِئْتُهُ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ ثُلُثَاهُ أَوْ نِصْفُهُ، فَتَوَضَّأَ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ وُضُوئِهِ فَضَلَ فِي الْقَدَحِ مِنْ وَضُوئِهِ فَضْلٌ، فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَرَأَى النَّاسَ قِيَامًا، فَقَالَ: " مَا هَؤُلَاءِ ؟ " قَالَ أَنَسٌ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَجِدُونَ مَا يَتَوَضَّئُونَ، قَالَ: " ادْعُهُمْ، فَفَعَلْتُ، فَجَاءَ النَّاسُ، فَأَدْخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ فِي الْقَدَحِ فِي فَضْلِهِ الَّذِي فَضَلَ مِنْ وَضُوئِهِ، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْهُمْ إِنْسَانٌ إِلَّا تَوَضَّأَ مِمَّا فِي كَفِّ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَفَضَلَ فِي الْقَدَحِ فَضْلَةٌ، فَرَجَعْتُ بِهِ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ ".

✧ The waters were scarce during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and when it was summer the people would pray Zuhr and then go out to take the afternoon breeze. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr and then went out, and they went out with him to the courtyard of the mosque. He stayed until the call to prayer, then he sent me to the house of Umm Salamah to bring him water for ablution. I entered and brought him a bowl two-thirds or half full. He performed ablution. When he finished his ablution, there remained some leftover water from his ablution in the bowl. He raised his head and saw the people standing. He said: "What are these?" Anas said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, they cannot find water with which to perform ablution. He said: "Call them." So I did, and the people came. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ put his hand into the bowl in the leftover from his ablution. By the One in whose hand is my soul, not one of them remained who did not perform ablution from what was in the palm of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and a little remained in the bowl. I returned it to the house.
