وَبِهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْحَدَّادُ، ثَنَا وَاصِلُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ وَاصِلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، وَعُمُومَتِي، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي رَجُلٌ شَاعِرٌ، فَمَا تَرَى فِي الشِّعْرِ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ مَا بَيْنَ لَبَّتِكَ إِلَى عَانَتِكَ قَيْحًا وَصَدِيدًا خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا.
