✧ Indeed, when the believer is attended by death, the angels come to him with a silk cloth containing musk and bundles of sweet basil, and his soul is drawn out as a hair is drawn out of dough. And it is said: ‘O tranquil soul, come out pleased and pleasing, and pleased with you.’ Then the silk cloth is folded over it and it is sent up to the highest of the high. And when the disbeliever is attended by death, the angels come with a coarse cloth containing a live coal, and his soul is wrenched out with a violent wrenching. And it is said: ‘O wicked soul, come out angry and with anger upon you, to humiliation and punishment.’ And when his soul comes out and is placed upon that coal, it makes a hissing sound, and the coarse cloth is folded over it and it is taken away to the lowest of the low.

machine translationQatādah narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Hammām narrated it from Qatādah, from Abū al-Jawzāʾ, from Abū Hurayrah. Al-Qāsim b. al-Faḍl differed from them and narrated it from Qatādah, from Qasāmah b. Zuhayr, from Abū Hurayrah. And God knows best what is correct.
