✧ Mu'adh b. Jabal used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ, then go to his people and lead them in prayer. He led them in a prayer and recited to them [Surah] al-Baqarah. A man shortened his prayer and prayed a light prayer. That reached Mu'adh, so he said: He is a hypocrite. That reached the man, so he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, we are people who work with our hands and water with our camels, and last night Mu'adh led us in prayer and recited al-Baqarah, so I shortened my prayer. He claimed that I am a hypocrite. The Prophet ﷺ said: O Mu'adh, are you a troublemaker? — three times — O Mu'adh, recite [Surah] al-Shams wa Duhaha and [Surah] Sabbih Isma Rabbika al-A'la and similar surahs.

machine translationHe was asked about the ḥadīth of Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh from Muʿādh, that he used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and then leave and lead his people in that same prayer. He said: ʿAmr b. Dīnār narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Al-Ḥasan b. Abī Jaʿfar narrated it from Ayyūb from ʿAmr from Jābir from Muʿādh, and Muḥammad b. Yazīd al-Wāsiṭī followed him, narrating it from Shuʿbah from ʿAmr from Jābir from Muʿādh. But the students of Shuʿbah and the students of Ayyūb contradicted them both, narrating it from them from ʿAmr from Jābir that Muʿādh [did so]. Likewise Manṣūr b. Zādhān, Warqāʾ and Muḥammad b. Muslim narrated it. The sound (ṣaḥīḥ) version is that it belongs to the musnad of Jābir.
