حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الْجُنْدَيْسَابُورِيُّ، نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَرْبٍ الْجُنْدَيْسَابُورِيُّ، ثَنَا أَشْعَثُ بْنُ عَطَّافٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْعَرْزَمِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ قَالَ:

رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، أَتَى الْحَجَرَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى جَنَبَتَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَبَّلَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " أَمَا وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ، وَأَنَّكَ لَا تَضُرُّ وَلَا تَنْفَعُ، وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُقَبِّلُكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ

✧ I saw ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb come to the [Black] Stone, place his hands on its two sides, then kiss what was between them. Then he said, “By God, I know that you are a stone, and that you can neither harm nor benefit. Had I not seen the Messenger of God ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you.”
