✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out of the door of the house intending to go to the room, and he heard people disputing about predestination. One of them was saying, 'Didn't Allah say in such-and-such a verse?' and the other was saying, 'Didn't Allah say in such-and-such a verse?' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out of the door of the room, and it was as if a pomegranate seed had been burst on his face. He said, 'Is this what you were commanded with?'—or 'Is this what you were sent with?'—'Those before you were destroyed only by things like this; they struck the Book of Allah against itself. Allah commands you with a matter, so accept it, and He forbids you from something, so desist from it.' Then no one was heard speaking about predestination after that until the nights of al-Hajjaj. The first to speak about predestination was Ma'bad al-Juhani, and al-Hajjaj killed him.
