  1. Ibn ʿAbbās

✧ On the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Umm Hani' bt. Abi Talib, and he was hungry. She said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have in-laws who have sought refuge with me, and Ali b. Abi Talib is not deterred by any blame in the cause of Allah. I fear that he will learn of them and kill them, so grant safety to whoever enters my house until they hear the word of Allah.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted them safety.' Then he said: 'Do you have any food for me to eat?' She said: 'I have some dry pieces of bread left overnight, and I am ashamed to present them to you.' He said: 'Bring them.' She brought them and some salt. He said: 'O Umm Hani', is there any condiment?' She said: 'I have nothing but a little vinegar.' He said: 'Bring it.' When she brought it, he poured it over his food, then ate from it. Then he praised Allah and said: 'What an excellent condiment vinegar is, O Umm Hani'. A house that has vinegar will never be poor.'
