✧ A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the time of prayer. When the sun declined, Bilal called the adhan for Zuhr. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for 'Asr when we thought a man's shadow was longer than him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for Maghrib when the sun set. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for 'Isha when the whiteness of day was gone, that is the twilight. Then he ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for Fajr when dawn broke. He ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then Bilal called the adhan the next day for Zuhr when the sun declined. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed it until the shadow of everything was equal to it. He performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for 'Asr. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed it until the shadow of everything was twice its length. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for Maghrib when the sun set. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed it until the whiteness of day was almost gone, that is the first of twilight as it appears. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he called the adhan for 'Isha when the twilight disappeared. We slept, then woke up several times. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us and said: 'No one among the people is waiting for this prayer except you. You will remain in prayer as long as you wait for it. Were it not that I would make it difficult for my Ummah, I would have ordered delaying this prayer until midnight or close to midnight.' Then he called the adhan for Fajr and delayed it until the sun was almost about to rise. He ordered him, so he performed the iqamah and he prayed. Then he said: 'The time is between these two times.'
