وَبِهِ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُجَمِّعٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي النَّضِيرِ، كَانَ فِي حِجْرِ صَفِيَّةَ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: الرَّبِيعُ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ حُيَيٍّ، قَالَتْ:
مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَحْسَنَ خُلُقًا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ وَقَدْ رَكِبَ بِي مِنْ خَيْبَرَ عَلَى عَجُزِ نَاقَتِهِ لَيْلًا، فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْعَسُ فَيَضْرِبُ رَأْسِي مُؤْخِرَةَ الرَّحْلِ، فَيَمَسُّنِي بِيَدِهِ، وَيَقُولُ: يَا هَذِهِ مَهْلًا، يَا بِنْتَ حُيَيٍّ مَهْلًا، حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءَ الصَّهْبَاءَ قَالَ: " أَمَا إِنِّي أَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكِ يَا صَفِيَّةُ مِمَّا صَنَعْتُ بِقَوْمِكِ، إِنَّهُمْ قَالُوا لِي كَذَا، وَقَالُوا لِي كَذَا ".

✧ I have never seen anyone with better character than the Messenger of God ﷺ. I saw him when he mounted me behind him on his camel at night after Khaybar. I began to doze, and my head would hit the rear of the saddle. He would touch me with his hand and say: 'O this one, gently; O daughter of Huyayy, gently.' When he reached al-Sahba', he said: 'Indeed, I apologize to you, O Safiyyah, for what I did to your people. They said such-and-such to me and such-and-such to me.'
