✧ The Prophet ﷺ granted safety to the people on the day of the conquest of Makkah, except for four individuals: 'Abd al-'Uzza b. Khatal, Miqyas b. Subabah al-Kinani, 'Abd Allah b. Sa'd b. Abi Sarh, and Umm Sarah, a woman. As for 'Abd al-'Uzza, he was killed while clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah. He said: A man from the Ansar vowed to kill 'Abd Allah b. Sa'd b. Abi Sarh if he saw him. He was the foster brother of 'Uthman b. 'Affan. 'Uthman brought him to the Messenger of God ﷺ to intercede for him. When the Ansari saw him, he grasped his sword and went out seeking him. He found him in the circle of the Messenger of God ﷺ and was afraid to kill him. He kept hesitating and disliked approaching him because he was in the circle of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ extended his hand and accepted his pledge of allegiance. Then he said to the Ansari: 'I was waiting for you to fulfill your vow.' He said: 'O Messenger of God, I was in awe of you. Could you not have signaled to me?' He said: 'It is not for a prophet to signal.' As for Miqyas, he had a brother who was killed by mistake while with the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God ﷺ sent with him a man from Banu Fihr to collect the blood money for him from the Ansar. When he had collected the blood money and returned, the Fihri fell asleep. Miqyas jumped up, took a stone, and struck his head with it, killing him. Then he came forward saying: 'The soul is healed of one who spent the night in the open, propped up, / His two garments stained with the blood of his veins. / The anxieties of the soul before his killing / Used to stir and make me forget the softness of beds. / By him I have settled my vengeance and achieved my revenge, / And I was the first to return to the idols.' As for Umm Sarah, she was a freedwoman of Quraysh. She came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and complained of need, so he gave her something. Then a man came to her and handed her a letter for the people of Makkah, seeking favor with them so that his family would be protected, for he had family there. Jibril informed the Messenger of God ﷺ of that. He sent 'Umar b. al-Khattab and 'Ali b. Abi Talib after her. They caught up with her and searched her but found nothing. They turned back. One of them said to the other: 'By God, we have not lied, nor have we been lied to. Let us go back to her.' So they returned to her, drew their swords, and said: 'By God, we will make you taste death unless you hand over the letter to us.' She denied it. Then she said: 'I will give it to you on the condition that you do not bring me back to the Messenger of God ﷺ.' They accepted that from her. She untied the band of her head and brought out a letter from her hair, handing it to them. They returned with it to the Messenger of God ﷺ and gave it to him. He sent for the man and said: 'What is this letter?' He said: 'I will tell you, O Messenger of God. There is no one with you but has someone in Makkah to protect his family, except me. So I wrote this letter so that they would look after my family.' Then God revealed: 'O you who believe, do not take My enemy and your enemy as allies, offering them affection...' to the end of the verses.
