حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عِرْسٍ، نَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ عَبْدُ الْأَوَّلِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُعَلِّمُ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، نَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي وَاهِبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمَعَافِرِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ، يَقُولُ:
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَمِّهِ الْعَبَّاسِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا عَبَّاسُ إِنَّهُ لَا يَكُونُ نُبُوَّةٌ إِلَّا كَانَتْ بَعْدَهَا خِلَافَةٌ، وَسَيَلِي مِنْ وَلَدِكَ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ، مِنْهُمُ السَّفَّاحُ، وَمِنْهُمُ الْمَنْصُورُ، وَمِنْهُمُ الْمَهْدِيُّ، وَلَيْسَ بِمَهْدِيٍّ، وَمِنْهُمُ الْجَمُوحُ، وَمِنْهُمُ الْعَاقِبُ، وَمِنْهُمُ الْوَاهِنُ مِنْ وَلَدِكَ، وَوَيْلٌ لِأُمَّتِي مِنْهُ، كَيْفَ يَعْقِرُهَا وَيُهْلِكُهَا، وَيَذْهَبُ بِأَمْوَالِهَا هُوَ وَأَتْبَاعُهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ دِينِ الْإِسْلَامِ، فَإِذَا بُويِعَ لِصَبِيِّهِ فَعِنْدَ الثَّامِنِ عَشَرَ انْقِطَاعُ دَوْلَتِهِمْ وَخُرُوجُ أَهْلِ الْغَرْبِ مِنْ بُيُوتِهِمْ

✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ take his uncle al-'Abbas by the hand, then he said: 'O 'Abbas, there is no prophethood but that it is followed by a caliphate. And from your descendants there shall rule in the end of time seventeen: among them al-Saffah, among them al-Mansur, among them al-Mahdi — and he is not a Mahdi — among them al-Jamuh, among them al-'Aqib, among them al-Wahin from your offspring. And woe to my Ummah from him! How he will wound it and destroy it and take its wealth, he and his followers, upon other than the religion of Islam. Then when allegiance is given to his young son, with the eighteenth, their state will be cut off and the people of the west will come forth from their homes.'
