حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ، قَالَ: نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقَوَّاسُ، قَالَ: نَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الزَّنْجِيُّ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ:
مَارَانِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ فِي الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي اتَّبَعَهُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: هُوَ الْخَضِرُ، قَالَ الْفَزَارِيُّ: هُوَ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ، فَمَرَّ بِنَا أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ. قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: فَدَعَوْتُهُ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ: أَسَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَذْكُرُ الَّذِي تَبِعَهُ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: بَيْنَا مُوسَى جَالِسٌ فِي مَلَإِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ أَعْلَمُ بِاللهِ مِنْكَ ؟ قَالَ: مَنْ أُرَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: فَعَتَبَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، إِذْ لَمْ يَرُدَّ الْأَمْرَ إِلَيْهِ، فَأَوْحَى اللهُ: بَلْ عَبْدِي الْخَضِرُ، فَسَأَلَ السَّبِيلَ إِلَيْهِ ؟ فَجَعَلَ اللهُ لَهُ الْحُوتَ آيَةً إِذَا افْتَقَدَهُ، وَكَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِهِ مَا قَصَّ اللهُ

✧ A man from Banu Fazarah argued with me about the man whom Musa followed. He said: I said, 'He is al-Khidr.' The Fazari said, 'He is another man.' Then Ubayy b. Ka'b passed by us. Ibn Abbas said: I called him and asked him, 'Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention the one whom Musa ﷺ followed?' He said, 'Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: While Musa was sitting among a company of the Children of Israel, a man said to him, "Is there any man more knowledgeable about Allah than you?" He said, "I do not think so." Then Allah reproached him for not referring the matter to Him, and Allah revealed: "Rather, My servant al-Khidr." So he asked for a way to meet him, and Allah made the fish a sign for him when he would lose it, and his affair was as Allah related.'
