✧ I entered upon A'ishah, and she called for food and said, "Eat. How rarely do I feel full from food but that I wish to weep and I do weep." I said, "O Mother of the Believers, why is that?" She said, "I remember the condition in which the Messenger of God ﷺ left this world. The Messenger of God ﷺ never ate his fill twice in a day of wheat bread until he met God." He said: And A'ishah said, "A woman from the Ansar entered upon me and saw that the bedding of the Messenger of God ﷺ was a coarse cloak. She said, 'Does he have no bedding other than this?' I said, 'No, by God, he has no bedding other than it.' So she took a strip of fine cloth and stuffed it with wool, then brought it to me and said, 'Let this be the bedding of the Messenger of God ﷺ.' When he came, he said, 'O A'ishah, what is this?' I told him, and he said, 'Return it.' She said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ left my presence while I had not returned it, and I was pleased that it should be in my house. Then he came and said, 'O A'ishah, did I not command you to return it?' I said, 'O Messenger of God, I did not return it, and I loved that it be in my house.' He said, 'O A'ishah, return it, for if I wished, God would have caused gold and silver to flow with me.'"
